How to replace Timing Belt Cover on Dodge Neon?

To inspect timing belt,the timing belt cover has to be taken apart.First the cover has to be open.Timing belt cover sometimes gets dirty.Cracked timing belt cover.

In this cases the cover has to be open and inspected.
If faulty,then timing belt cover has to be replaced .

The details and procedure to complete this task is follows :------


Removal & Installation




NOTE
For crankshaft seal removal and installation, please refer to the oil pump procedure location earlier in this section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belts.
  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle, then remove the right inner splash shield.
  4. Remove the crankshaft damper, as outlined earlier in this section.
  5. Remove the lower timing belt cover fasteners.

  6. Carefully lower the vehicle, then support the engine with a floor jack and block of wood under the oil pan. NEVER place the jack directly on the oil pan, use a block of wood to disperse the weight of the engine.

  7. Disconnect the hoses, unplug the connector and remove the purge solenoid.

  8. Unfasten the retainers, then remove the right engine mount. You will have to remove the access plug to get to the insulator bolt.

  9. Unbolt the power steering pump and position it aside for more working space. Do NOT disconnect the power steering fluid lines!

  10. Remove the right engine mount bracket.

  11. Unfasten the remaining retainers, then remove the timing belt cover from the engine.

To install:
  1. Install the front timing belt cover and secure with the upper and/or side fasteners.
  2. Install the right engine mount bracket.
  3. Reposition the power steering pump and bolt it securely in place.
  4. Install the right engine mount, then remove the jack from under the oil pan.
  5. Install the purge solenoid and attach the connector and hoses.
  6. Install the lower timing belt fasteners.
  7. Install the crankshaft damper, as outlined earlier in this section.
  8. Install the inner splash shield, then carefully lower the vehicle.
  9. Install the accessory drive belts.
  10. Raise and safely support the vehicle, then install the right inner splash shield.
  11. Carefully lower the vehicle, then connect the negative battery cable.
